Williamson, James (1838-1868)
Williamson, James
Lancaster, Lancs.; gilder (fl.1838-68)
He was recorded in the Gillow Archive for an Albuera wood commode that he gilded for John Hargreaves Esq in November 1843. He was almost certainly James Williamson, painter, gilder and table cover manufacturer, who was in partnership with Ellen Shrigley in 1842. He took on fifteen apprentices from 1838-68. His firm became one of the largest and most successful in Lancaster and his son, James Williamson jnr (1842-1930), linoleum manufacturer, eventually became Lord Ashton.
