Williams, John (1816-1891)
Williams, John
Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire, Wales; cabinet maker (b.1816-d.1891)
Son of a farmer from Tre-lech a’r Betws.
In 1850 he commissioned portraits of himself, his wife and his daughter from David James Patrick, a local artist. Elected burgess of Carmarthen in 1856 and recorded in trade directories from 1868 as a builder. This is perhaps the same man who made a clock case for a movement by William Isaac of Llanelli, bearing the inscription: ‘John Williams Park Street Cabinet Maker 1849’ (illus. Bebb (2007), I, fig. 96; II, fig 1100).
Possibly the same John Williams, cabinet maker, who was listed in Pigot's South Wales Directory, 1830 & 1844 at Lammas Street, Carmarthen.
