Dublin, Ireland; upholder and auctioneer (fl. 1757-1809)

Apprenticed to Humphrey Blair, 1750-7. Made Freeman of the City of Dublin as an Upholder by Service, Michaelmas 1757. He was elected Warden of the Joiners’ Guild, 1787-8, 1807-8 and 1808-9.

Recorded at 14 Ormond Quay, 1767-80; 35 Dawson Street, 1781-3; 39 Dawson Street, 1784-94.

Thomas Whitestone married Elizabeth Vivian in the Parish of St Werburgh, 10 August 1765 [Parish Records Society of Dublin, vol. XII, p. 132].

Advertised in Saunder’s New Letter and Daily Advertiser, 13 March 1779 : ‘House Furniture, Thomas Whitestone, Upholder and Cabinet-maker, begs leave to inform the public in general and his friends in particular, that the lease of his house on Ormond-quay being now expired he takes the large and extensive concerns, No 35 in Dawson-street opposite Molesworth-street, where he intends continuing his business in the most extensive and complete manner than theretofore, by having a greater variety of ready made furniture, in the newest taste, which he will sell on at reasonable terms as the different article can be afforded at, particularly for ready money. Furniture valued and sold by auction.

N.B. He will sell his house in Ormond-quay, for the remainder of his lease being about two year’.
