Webb, John

Location not known; upholsterer (fl.1841-42)

His name, amongst others, and the dates ‘July 1841' and ‘July 1842' and '1841' were inscribed in pen and ink on several chairs from a set of twenty-four made by Gillows in 1803 for the Brookes family of Mere Hall, Cheshire (sold Christie's 23 May 1994, lot 106). He was probably the upholsterer who replaced the seats together with Robert Anderson who also inscribed his name and the same dates on other chairs.
