Turner or Tornor, John

Lancaster, Lancashire; cabinet maker (fl.1769-71)

His work for Gillows included for ‘21 days at library table for Mr Blundell’, of Ince Blundell near Liverpool, in October 1769 for which he was paid 2gns. He made the circular library table illustrated in Stuart (2008), pl. 283, for Lord George Cavendish for Holker Hall in November 1771. He drew cash for work done for the firm between June and December 1771, plus a few handles and tacks. The books were balanced in December of that year: ‘recd. 24 Decr. 1771 the above balance of £l 14s 7d in full of all demands’. John Turner or Tornor was probably also the ‘John Twiner’ listed in their Petty Ledger for 1766-69.
