Townson, Robert (1773-1790)

Townson, Robert

Lancaster, Lancs.; cabinet maker (fl.1773-d.1790)

He received 2s a day for four days’ work in 1773. He was paid again in January and July 1774. Gillows noted ‘Robt. Townsend say Townson’; he rented property from the firm. In 1780 he made some rout seats for Mr. Wyman. He was recorded on 21 February and 7 March in their Petty Cash Book. His work and dealings with Gillows were recorded in their Petty Ledger 1769-91. He was buried by Gillows in July 1790 when the making of his oak coffin ‘was given by the men’, probably as a mark of respect; the men in question were Thomas Dowbiggin and Mr. Forrest.
