Robert was the son of James Thompson a stonemason. He was admitted a freeman on 25 July 1838.  

Probably the same Robert Thompson, recorded at 1 Concert Street & 105 Richmond Row, Liverpool, who with Alfred Brown, also a cabinet maker, recorded in connection with a bill of sale (i.e, security) for £25 to Islington Loan Co., filed on 6 July 1877 [The Furniture Gazette, 21 July 1877]. 

Robert Thompson, of the same addresses, was recorded in connection with another bill of sale for £17 4s to Islington Loan Co. on 27 October 1877 [The Furniture Gazette, 17 November 1877].
