Dublin, Ireland; joiner and cabinet maker (fl.1735-d.1771)
Freeman of the City of Dublin as a Joiner by Service, Michaelmas 1729. In 1753 he was elected onto the Dublin Common Council for the Joiners’ Guild.
Recorded at Blind Quay 1735-56; Henry Street 1771.
He was patronised by Robert French of Monivae [National Library of Ireland, MSS 4918].
Pue’s Occurrences, 2-6 December 1736: ‘Yesterday morning about five o’clock a fire broke out in a Cabinet-maker’s house on the Blind-quay, but with the timely assistance it was soon extinguished without much damage’.
Universal Advertiser, 1 May 1753: ‘Just imported from London by Edwin Thomas, at his Mahogany Warehouse on the Blind-quay, A large assortment of different coloured flock paper, both plain and mixed, with English carpets and Wilton carpeting, as also large Turkey carpets, English blankets, moreens and harateens, with mahogany balister trays, round and oblong, and japanned salvers and tea boards. N.B. As several persons of quality desire to have notice when the above paper were landed, said Thomas takes this opportunity of informing them’.
