Symonds, James

Broad Street, Hereford, Herefordshire; turner and chair maker (fl.1777–88)

In April 1777 it was announced that Thomas Wood, a brush maker from Bristol, had entered a partnership with Symonds but no later references to this arrangement are known [Hereford Journal, 10 April 1777].

In 1779 Symonds purchased insurance cover of £200 which included £160 for utensils and stock [LMA, Sun MS vol. 273, p. 365]. 

A James Symonds, chair maker was admitted a freeman of Hereford in 1784 [Freeman rolls].

Sir George Cornewall of Moccas Court, near Hereford employed a Symonds in 1788 bottoming chairs for which he paid £1 12s on 15 April [Herefordshire. Record Office, Moccas papers, J56/IV/4].
