Sykes, Edmund

Lancaster, Lancs.; cabinet maker (fl.1758-1796)

A Roman Catholic, son of James Sykes, innkeeper of Settle, he was apprenticed to Richard Gillow to serve from 11 September 1758. He was listed as a workman in April 1769. His work was recorded in the Gillow’s Petty Ledger for 1766-69 and 1792-96. In 1767 he was a cabinet maker aged twenty-four years old, married with two children and a servant. His wife's name was Elizabeth and their children were James, aged eighteen months, and a daughter, also called Elizabeth, three months old.
