Strong, William & Son

17 Riding House Street, London; cabinet carvers (fl.1871-1877)

Listed in the London Post Office Directory 1871.

The Furniture Gazette, 24 February 1877, recorded a court case where three cabinet makers, Andrews, Jarrett & Tremaine, all employed by the firm, had been sent to Ireland to put up some carved wood chimneypieces for Sir Arthur Guinness at Ashford House, Co. Mayo

The dispute arose from whether the employees should have been paid a joiners’ rate or cabinet makers’ rate for the work.  Judgement was given in favour of the latter in accordance with the plaintiffs’ request.
