Smith, Thomas (1770-1818)
Smith, Thomas, Norwich, cm (1770–1818). At 16 St Giles St, but from 1805–10 this address was listed as St Giles, Broad St. Free on 24 February 1770 but not by servitude. His own apps, Francis Clarke and John Blomfield, were free on 3 May 1813 and 14 July 1818 respectively. In 1775 took out insurance cover of £400 of which £350 was for utensils and stock. By 1778 total cover had risen to £900 and utensils and stock to £850 which suggests a prosperous and expanding enterprise. In 1786 he insured a house on the corner of Goat Lane for £300.
