Smith, Jeremiah

York, Yorkshire; upholsterer (1758–71)

The son of John Smith, joiner, made free in 1758 and in this year was living at Coney Street.

Employed by Richard Farrer, and in partnership with Matthew Browne he took over his former employers’ shop in High Ousegate in November 1766.

Smith bound Christopher Blackburn as an apprentice jointly with Matthew Hearon on 19 January 1767, and on 24 June 1771 George Bradley jointly with his partner Matthew Browne [Freemen rolls; apprentice register; York Courant, 25 November 1766].
