Smith, Henry
parish of St Michael le Belfrey, York, Yorkshire; upholsterer (c. 1741– 67)
The son of the yeoman John Smith of Oulstone, Yorkshire. His father was already dead when on 29 September 1734 he was apprenticed to George Reynoldson.
Smith was a Roman Catholic and this fact was noted by the authorities at various dates from 1745. In 1767 he was living in the parish of St Michael-le Belfrey and had been there for fifteen years. He was aged 48 [Catholic Recusancy in York; York City archives, quarter sessions book, 1744–56].
