Slack was recorded at 4 Dale Street, Oldham Street, Manchester (1840). 

Possibly the same John Slack listed as a carver, gilder and cabinet maker at 17 Lever Street, Manchester in The Furniture Gazette Directory, 1876 & 1877. Slack was declared bankrupt on 11 January 1884, the business was put into the hands of a receiver and there following the payment of a first & final dividend of 1s. on 26 May 1884 [The Furniture Gazette, 26 January, 9 February & 7 June 1884].
