Shoolbred & Loveridge

Wolverhampton, Staffordshire & London; japanners & papier mache manufacturers (fl.1849-1912)

Shoolbred & Loveridge were recorded as japanners and later papier mache manufacturers, 47 Hatton Gardens, London in 1849. From c.1860 Henry Loveridge ran the business alone, listed in 1871 Post Office Directory as japanners at the same address. He was still recorded in 1912 in London and Wolverhampton producing a wide variety of japanned wares, copper & brass goods, plant pots, etc. In Furniture & Decoration, 18 March 1898, p. 63 & 15 Sept 1897, p. 188, it was stated that ‘their name will continue to be a household word in furnishing and decorative circles’. Loveridge exhibited a tole-work coal vase/box at the 1862 London International Exhibition (illus. Meyer (2006), p. 163).
