Rose, A. G. (1895-1902)

Rose, A. G.

London; cabinet maker (fl.c.1895-1902)

Rose joined the Guild of Handicraft in the 1890s. C. R. Ashbee considered him pretentious: ‘As he knows that Thursday is my day for bringing cultured and intellectual visitors round the shops; and Carlyle’s French Revolution lying negligently at the corner of his [Rose’s] cabinetmaker’s bench... creates an impression’.

A.G. Rose was recorded as the maker of an oak chest, stained green, designed by C.R. Ashbee, which was exhibited by the Guild of Handicraft at the Arts & Crafts Exhibition Society, London, 1896 (cat. no. 348).

There is no record of him moving from London to Chipping Campden with the Guild in 1902.
