Rogers, Thomas

Erddig, Denbighshire, Wales; carpenter (fl. 1798-c.1850)

Rogers was apprenticed to a wheelwright in 1798 and was a carpenter on the Erddig estate by 1810. In 1815 he was ‘seized by a press gang while repairing estate cottages at Plas Grono’ but soon released. He was succeeded by his son James. An oil portrait of Thomas Rogers in his workshop, painted by William Jones in 1830, is at Erddig (illus. Bebb (2007), fig. 972).
