Lewis Ambrose Reeve was recorded in High Street, Ashford as a cabinet maker, paper hanger and sub-distributor of stamps (1838-9); Ann Reeve (1823-29); and Reeve & Son (1832-34).
J. Reeve was listed as a cabinet maker at 24 High Street, Ashford in The Furniture Gazette Directory, 1876.
Reeve’s partially rebuilt premises, including a three story building on High Street and several four storey workshops running 180ft behind, were badly affected by fire in November 1883. The cause of the fire was unknown. The stock was valued at least £3,000 and the premises at least £2,000; the whole insured by the Kent Office [The Furniture Gazette, 24 November 1883].
