Rees, William

Swansea, Wales; cabinet maker (fl. 1840-1855)

This maker is known by an account book in which he recorded his work for various furniture makers in Swansea. Between 1840 and 1844 he worked for J Evans at a rate of 1s. 10d. per day. In 1846 he worked for Thomas Hanson by whome he was paid 3s. per day to make and polish all kinds of furniture, including coffins. In May 1847 he moved to John Harris Roberts in Wind Street to work piece rate. In 1851 he was with Evan Morgan of Bridgend for four months before moving west to Haverfordwest. In 1855 he was probably working on his own account, but the location was not specified.
