London and Ilse of Ely, Cambridgeshire; upholder (fl. 1759–1802)

The son of a farmer, William Read of the Isle of Ely, apprenticed to Francis Say on 12 June 1759 and admitted a freeman of the Upholders’ Company by servitude on 6 April 1768.

Recorded at Cannon Street, London in 1773 and Isle of Ely, 1774–1802.

A Joseph Read took an apprentice named John Southwell, 1778–85 [Guildhall Library (GL), Upholders’ Company records].
