12 Little Wild Street, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London; cabinet maker (fl.1787–1817)

A fire at Prentice's shop (address not stated) was reported in July 1787. In 1793 he was declared bankrupt [Gents Magazine, July 1787; Bailey's list of bankrupts]. From 1794 he was recorded in trade directories at the Little Wild Street address.

In 1793 he subscribed to Sheraton's Drawing Book and is included in the list of master cabinet makers in his Cabinet Dictionary, 1803.

William Prentice had a son who joined him in the business and an early 19th-century mahogany Pembroke table, the top with rounded corners and reeded edge, on turned tapering legs is known with the trade label of Wm Prentice & Son [Phillips’, 24 August 1965].
