Powell, John

Eastgate Row, Chester, Cheshire; upholsterer (1792–1818)

In 1792 Powell bound John Price as an apprentice. This is also the date of his trade card illustrated below:

On 20 March 1807 he was paid £200 with a further £100 on 11 April. An account dated 22 July 1814 showed an additional payment of £75 16s 4½d [V&A archives].

By December 1818 he was dead and the business wound up [Chester Guardian, 19 December 1818].

NB: Possibly the Powell who supplied furniture to Erddig, Clwyd, North Wales (1807–14) for Simon Yorke.
