Born in 1807, Pomroy married Eliza King on 5 Nov 1831 at Portland Square, Bristol, in Gloucestershire. The following year the couple immigrated to the United States, arriving in New York City on 22 June 1832. They had three children baptised at the Church of the Epiphany in Manhattan: Hester Eliza (born 22 August 1835), George Washington (born 3 July 1837), and Hugh Edward (born 21 October 1839).
George died by suicide at thirty-three years of age on the 5 May 1840, his death announced in local newspapers a few days later. One obituary described him as a cabinet maker from England.
