Pike, John & Clark, James (1829-1871)
Pike, John & Clark, James
London; cabinet makers, upholsterers, damask manufacturers, furniture printers and undertakers (fl.1829-71)
Their trade card in the Landauer Collection, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York indicates that the partnership at 20 Frith Street, Soho Square were previously with the firm of Jeremy & Bragg who traded from an address at 28 Southampton Street, Covent Garden, 1824–29. Pike & Clark stated that they were trading as ‘Damask Manufacturers, Furniture Printers, Cabinet Makers & Upholsterers’ and also undertook funerals. The business was probably short-lived because the bankruptcy of the partners was announced in the Liverpool Mercury on 12 June 1829. Possibly the John Pike who was listed in the 1871 London Post Office Directory 1871 as a cabinet maker at 1 ½ Leonard Street, Finsbury.
