Philipson, Nicholas (1782-1787)

Philipson, Nicholas

London; cabinet maker and upholder (fl.1782-87)

Recorded in partnership with James Small at 190 Piccadilly when they insured their utensils, stock and goods for £800 in 1782 [The London Archives (TLA), Sun MS vol. 306, p. 251]. In 1785 they supplied Sir John Nelthorpe with six ‘yoke top stain'd chairs’ at 3s 6d each and two matching stools at 2s each. The account was receipted by William Arundale on behalf of the partners [Lincoln Record Office, NEL 9/7/19].

By 1786 the partnership appears to have ended and both continued to trade on their own behalf.

Probably the same Nicholas Philipson recorded as upholder (1786–87). In June 1786 he insured goods at a house in Arlington Street in the tenure of Lord Herbert for £300. In June 1787 purchased insurance cover on goods and property at 132 New Bond Street for £1,000 [The London Archives (TLA), Sun MS vol. 337, p. 520; vol. 342, ref. 531481].
