London; cabinet maker, upholder, undertaker etc. (fl.1777–1810)

Recorded as cabinet maker at 3 George Court, Bennetts Hill, Doctors Commons, London, in 1777 when he insured a house for £200 [The London Archives (TLA), Sun MS vol. 257, p. 315].  

Possibly the same Philip Richard, cabinet maker, upholder & undertaker etc. listed at 26 Bishopsgate Street Within (1778–94). In 1778 he purchased insurance cover of £400 at this address but only half was for utensils and stock [The London Archives (TLA), Sun MS vol. 264, p. 176; vol. 274, p. 33]. The corresponding figures for 1779 were £500 and £300. From 1795 at 12 Great Helen's Street. He was included in the list of master cabinet makers in Sheraton's Cabinet Dictionary, 1803. Philip was associated in an insurance policy with a Matthew Randall in 1781. 

In 1808 the business was listed as Richard Philip & Son. The business went bankrupt in November 1810, with an order issued in the names of Richard Philip jnr and William Gosling [Sussex Weekly Advertiser, 12 November 1810].
