Payne, Bartholomew (1772-92)

Payne, Bartholomew, London, upholder (1772–92). Son of Bartholomew Payne snr, and app. to Francis Pyner. Free of the Upholders’ Co. by servitude, 7 October 1772. From 1774–81 in Southwark where his address is given as either Gravel Lane or opposite the church in St George's Rd, Blackfriars Bridge. In 1777 he insured a shop and a shed for £100 and two years later utensils and stock for £300. By 1786, however, he was trading from Tottenham Ct Rd and was still there in 1792.
