Page, William (1905-1930)
Page, William
187a Tottenham Court Road, London; cabinet maker (fl.1905-30)
Page took over the workshops of Frederick Coote in 1905 and continued the contract of supplying furniture to Heal’s. In 1905 Coote/Page supplied twenty one different ranges of bedroom suites to Heal’s and in 1910 fourteen. In 1918 Ambrose Heal designed a painted and decorated sideboard (no. 732) to be made at the workshop and this remained in production for many years. At the beginning of 1920 Heal’s took over the lease of Page’s workshop and the furniture was described as ‘home made’. It was listed under Page’s name in the Heal’s stock books until 1930 when the models made by both Page and Heal’s Cabinet Factory were listed under the same heading in the stock books. The Coote/Page/Heal workshop at 187a Tottenham Court Road was responsible for much of the coloured Heal’s furniture in the 1920s. In 1925 Heal’s archives recorded 18 different bedroom suite ranges being produced at the Page workshop. The 1926 inventory of the workshop only records 6 benches, 1 veneer press and 2 glue pots so the workshop was obviously reducing in size. Page was also recorded as the decorator of the Heal ‘27’ table from 1918-27 (the table itself being made by the Heal’s Cabinet Factory) and as the maker of a painted black, green and blue dining table for a Heal’s client in 1926.
