Oldham, Thomas (1749-1779)

Oldham, Thomas

Dublin, Ireland; cabinet maker, upholder and stone cutter (fl.1749-79)

Recorded at 32 Moore Street, 1759-79; 38 Mecklenburgh Street, 1778. In 1749 Oldham was paid £10 11s. for furnishing chimneypieces (according to the designs of Inigo Jones) for the House of Lords. Also in 1749/50 Oldham worked on carving for Doneraile House, Dublin, including the making of a large pier glass in a white frame for the ‘Back eating parlour’. In both cases Oldham seems to have worked in association with John Kelly. Saunders’ News-Letter, 16-18 January 1775:  ‘Bankrupt Thomas Oldham, of the city of Dublin, Cabinet-maker, Dealer and Chapman, to surrender on the 28th and 30th day of January instant at 10 0'clock in the forenoon on each of the said days, and on the 28th day of February next, at two o'clock in the evening, at the Tholsel, Dublin’.
