Ogden, Henry & Son

Manchester; cabinet makers and upholsterers (fl.1862-82)

Ogden showed elaborately carved furniture in the Renaissance manner at the 1862 International Exhibition, including the largest sideboard at the Exhibition which was designed by Adam Broach (illus. Meyer (2006), p. 135). He later became a maker of Art Furniture for various designers. His ordinary production also included French-style metal-mounted furniture.

Ogden was at 128 Deansgate with works at Irk Mills [The Furniture Gazette Directory, 1876 & 1877].

A rosewood cabinet designed by H. W. Batley in an aesthetic style and a satinwood piano forte, were shown by the firm at the 1878 Paris Exhibition, which won a silver medal [illus. Meyer (2006), p. 259; The Furniture Gazette, 12 October 1878 & 15 March 1879]. They were also awarded a medal at the Yorkshire Fine Art and Industrial Exhibition, York, October 1879 [The Furniture Gazette, 1 November 1879].

An auction of the residue of Ogden's stock in trade was held in the autumn of 1882 [The Furniture Gazette, 28 October 1882].
