Moss, Barnett & Co.
London; carvers, gilders, cabinet and looking glass manufacturers (fl.1835–81)
Recorded as carver & gilder at 54 Leeman Street, Goodman Fields (1835-1839) and as looking glass makers and cabinet makers at 45 Leman Street (1871-77). The firm purchased a site in the new thoroughfare between Old Street & Bishopsgate Street in 1877 to erect new warehouses [London Post Office Directory, 1871; The Furniture Gazette Directory, 1876 & 1877; The Furniture Gazette, 10 March 1877].
The firm advertised in The Furniture Gazette from19 September 1874. A walnut carved bedstead and Samuel’s patent couch (which Moss was the sole licensee) were illustrated. A bedroom suite attributed to the firm in January 1881 was in error. The publisher soon apologised for this mistake as these pieces had actually been manufactured by Longstaff & Pitcher and purchased by Barnett, Moss & Co. [The Furniture Gazette, 6 March 1875; 15 January 1876; 15 & 22 & 29 January 1881].

Levy of Great Eastern Street and Warrington Crescent, Maida Vale, trading under the name of Moss, Barnett & Co., presented a petition for liquidation with debts estimated at £20,000 and assets of £10,000. J. B. Crump at 44 Eastcheap, and E. Foreman, accountant of 32 Gresham Street, were appointed as trustees and a first stock in trade was scheduled for 26 & 27 April 1881 [The Furniture Gazette, 22 January, 5 February & 16 April 1881].
