Morris, William Llewellyn
Trapp, Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire, Wales; carpenter and joiner (fl. 1906)
This man made a joined armchair in 17th century style for the 1905 Swansea exhibition of the Welsh Industries Association. It won the category ‘Copy of an old Welsh chair, in oak, with arms’. It was carved with the arms of Lord Dynevor on the back panel. The prize was £5 and the chair was bought by the local landowner Stepney-Gulston, who commissioned a companion chair the following year, bearing his arms instead. The chairs survive and are illustrated in Bebb (2007), II, fig. 1328.
