Morris, James

Lancaster, Manchester and Ratcliffe Bridge, Lancs.; chair maker and cabinet maker (fl.1785-1791)

He signed the Gillows’ 1785 wage agreement with thirty-two other workmen. By April 1788 he had moved to the Manchester area, when Gillows wrote to William Hibbert of Manchester: 'We desired Jas. Morris a cabinet maker who lately wrought for us & now lives near Manchester to call at your house & repair the chair you was speaking to us about it but don't know how soon he may have opportunity to do it'. In 1790-91 Gillows noted he was working as a cabinet maker at Ratcliffe Bridge near Bolton, Lancashire.
