Curtain Road, London; furniture makers (fl.1869-74)

Recorded at Motley Street, Curtain Road, London, as cabinet makers in the 1871 Post Office Directory. Makers of the pitch pine furniture designed by E. W. Pugin (1834-75) for the Granville Hotel, Ramsgate, c.1869. A table for this commission is illus. The Decorative Arts Society 1850 to the Present (2018) p. 12. The firm went bankrupt in 1874 and Cox & Sons might possibly have acquired some of its stock, which subsequently appeared in the 1876 stock of E. W. Pugin’s workshops and C & R Light’s catalogue of 1880.
