The firm exhibited a chandelier at the 1862 London International Exhibition (illus. Meyer (2006), p. 140). The designer, Maurice Bingham Adams (1849-1833), provided metalwork designs. 

Messenger & Sons were listed as cabinet & brass founders and metal bedstead makers in The Furniture Gazette Directory (1877) in Birmingham and at 75 Hatton Garden, London. 

Listed in The Furniture Gazette: Classified List of the Furniture, Upholstery and Allied Trades (1886) as metal bedstead manufacturers & retailers in Birmingham and Holborn Viaduct, London.  A gaselier illus. [The Furniture Gazette, 3 May 1879].
