Advertisement in the Stamford Mercury, 23 August 1722 read: ‘These are to give Notice to all Persons that have Occasion for fine Chairs of the newest Fashion; crooked Backs with French or Claw-Feet, or of any stain upon the polished Work, that they may be furnished by Edward Mason, Chair-Maker in St Martin's, Stamford Baron, as cheap as in London, and the work as good.’
