Jack Lubelsky arrived in Columbia Road in the East End of London in 1898 from Grodno in Russia. He was already an experienced furniture maker. In London he started to produce large work tables for the garment trade and quickly progressed to supplying bedroom suites for Maples and Waring & Gillow in London and Wylie & Lochhead in Glasgow. The firm became J. Lubelsky & Sons and moved to Old Ford, Bethnal Green. After the Second World War its name changed to Palatial Furniture and then to Lucas Furniture Systems.
