Lethard, Hugh (1720-1751)

Lethard, Hugh

Hart Street, Covent Garden, London; frame maker (b.c.1720-d.1751)

Hugh Lethard was a frame maker and probably either a business associate or employee of the glass grinder John Ince (d.1745), who had premises in Hart Street. He married John Ince’s widow, Mary, on 21 January 1747 and in March 1748 Ince’s stock in trade was sold in accordance with the terms of Ince’s will. The proceeds went to Mary and her four surviving children including John and William Ince. The latter later formed the famous partnership of Mayhew and Ince. After 1748 Mary and Hugh Lethard moved from Hart Street to an unknown location. Lethard died aged 31 in April 1751 and was buried on 12 April.
