Lemaistre, William senior

Dublin, Ireland; joiner (fl. 1728-d.1765)

Recorded in George’s Lane, 1735-65.

Made Freeman of the City of Dublin as a Joiner by Service, Midsummer 1728. Warden of the Joiners’ Guild from 1731 to 1732 and Master from 1739 to 1740.

In 1750 and 1753 he was elected onto the Dublin Common Council for the Joiners’ Guild.

Universal Advertiser, 1 February 1755: ‘Whereas William Lemaistre in George’s-lane, opposite to the end of Chequers-lane, Cabinet-maker, is informed by his customers that the advertisement in this paper, set forth by Peter Lemaistre, of the same trade, and the same lane, that he intends to quit the said business, and sell his stock in trade, and William Lemaistre’s said customers apprehend it was him, obliges him to take this method to inform the public, that the said William Lemaistre has all sorts of goods and fashionable cabinet and joyner’s goods in the best manner and sells at the most reasonable rates, and hopes to the satisfaction of his customers and others’.
