Listed in The Furniture Gazette Directory, 1876 & 1877, and The Furniture Gazette: Classified List of the Furniture, Upholstery, and Allied Trades (1886). Probably the same Henry Lazarus listed at 20 Old Street Road, as mattress makers.
Lazarus exhibited chairs, tables, coffee tavern seats, stools, iron tables with marble tops, garden seats etc. at the Labour Saving Machinery Exhibition, March 1881, Agricultural Hall, London [The Furniture Gazette, 19 March 1881], and a display including bedroom & dining furniture of the Early English style and chairs & tables adapted for use in hotels & restaurants at the Building Exhibition, Agricultural Hall, April 1881 [The Furniture Gazette, 19 March & 2 April 1881].
In June 1881 the male employees, cabinet makers & upholsterers of the firm dined at the City of London Tavern, Bishopsgate Street, to honour Mr. W. Lazarus attaining his majority. Mr Joel (the foreman) acted as Chairman and toasted the firm and Mr W. Lazarus. The female and young employees of the firm were treated to an outing on the same occasion [The Furniture Gazette, 25 June 1881].
In 1884 they participated in the Furniture Trade Exhibition, Agricultural Hall, 1884, where they displayed a range of cabinet goods at the [The Furniture Gazette, 17 May 1884].
On 20 October 1884 Henry Lazarus slipped off the platform at Camden Town station, was run over by a passing train and died. The jurors at the Coroners Court recorded there was no evidence whether the death had been caused by ‘misadventure or otherwise...’. An obituary in The Furniture Gazette, 8 November 1884, noted his benevolence having been Treasurer of the North London Synagogue, of the Jewish Soup Kitchen and of the Tradesmen’s Benevolent Society. Lazarus left a family of five sons and a daughter.
