Kirchhoffer, Francis

Dublin, Ireland; cabinet makers (fl. 1768-d.1842)

Francis Kirchhoffer was the son of John Kirchhoffer senior and was made Freeman of the City of Dublin as a Joiner by Birth, Easter 1768. He was elected Warden of the Joiners' Guild from 1773 to 1774 and Master from 1809 to 1810 and 1810 to 1811. In 1760 he was awarded the Dublin Society School prize.

Recorded in Henry Street, 1773-4; 26 Denmark Street, 1781-4 (in partnership with John Kirchhoffer); 52 Henry Street 1785-1815. Parish of St Marie, Francis Kirchhoffer, joiner, married Sarah Brook, spinster, on 30 December 1773 [Parish Records Society of Dublin, vol. XII, p. 32].

Kirchhoffer died in India in 1842. A signature recorded as ‘Francis Kirkhoffar’ occurs on the left-hand bottom board of a mahogany writing table apparently dating from about c.1765-75, illustrated in Gilbert (1996), fig. 557.
