Justice, Thomas

Dundee, Scotland; upholsterer, cabinet maker (fl.1874-1924)

Justice (b.1846, Dundee) trained as an upholsterer in Glasgow, and began trading in Tally Street, Dundee c.1874. In 1892 he opened spacious retail premises in Whitehall Street, selling furniture and also ceramics and household goods. His workshops moved in 1899 from Den's Road to a large, new factory at South Ward Street, employing over 100 men. 

Thomas Justice & Sons was incorporated into a limited company in 1897. Justice died in 1924 and was succeeded by his son, Matthew. His grandson, Thomas, was managing director, 1964-1995. The retail premises closed c.1980 and the contract furnishing business ceased trading in 2003.
