Johnson, Joseph F.
London; cabinet maker, designer & buyer (fl.1874-1957)
Born in Leicestershire and apprenticed to a cabinet maker in the west of England where he also attended design classes. Johnson then worked for Chamberlain, King & Jones in Birmingham and Maw, Till & Kirke in Hull before being appointed cabinet furniture buyer for Heal’s in 1897. He exhibited two sideboards and a bookcase at the 1923 Arts & Crafts Society Exhibition. He later designed bedroom suites inspired by the 1925 Parisian Exposition des Arts Décoratifs at which a book table of his design had been shown. Furniture he designed was displayed at the 1926, 1928, 1935 and 1938 Arts & Crafts Exhibitions.
