Jenkins, John

Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire, Wales; cabinet maker (fl.1841-75)

The son of a shoemaker and originally from Poole in Dorset, he began working aged 18 for Thomas Jenkins of Llandeilo about 1841 at the lowest daily rate. By 1862 he was foreman for his uncle (Thomas?) engaged in the restoration of Llansaint Church. In 1875 he was listed in Worrall’s Directory as a ‘carpenter and joiner’ in Kidwelly, in partnership with his cousin Thomas Gower.
