Hutton, Robert
Lancaster, Lancs.; furniture painter (fl.1781)
In May 1781 Robert Hutton was mentioned in a letter from Richard Gillow to Thomas Machell jnr of Aynsome Manor as a painter who was ‘now painting in Ulverston’. Gillow promised to send him over to Cartmel directly to paint the organ case. He recommended him as suitable to ‘complete the work as well as any other can... you cannot do better'. The following month the firm promised to send a ‘proper person’ to Cartmel ‘to fix the organ pipes... as they will make a material difference in the appearance of it’.
