Hutton, James (1794–1808)

Hutton, James

Lancaster, Lancashire; furniture painter and japanner (fl.1794–1808)

Listed in the Gillows’ archive between 1802-04. He earned £130 7s 1d. in 1802, and other sums are mentioned but no details of the furniture he painted. He purchased copal varnish and white varnish from Gillows. Possibly the J Hutton paid in 1808 to paint the tiny numbers on each specimen wood of a workbox which corresponded to the printed list.
