Son of George Hughes, made Freeman of the City of Dublin as a Joiner by Birth, Midsummer 1748.
Recorded in William Street, 1748-68.
Parish of St Bride, William Hughes, joiner, married Ann Lamb 14 December 1749 [Parish Records Society of Dublin, vol. XI, p. 149].
Hughes had a number of apprentices: John Jones as a joiner, 1757, and Peter Riorteau as a joiner, 1760.
Belfast News Letter, 30 December 1768: ‘Friday, December 23rd about seven in the evening Mr. William Hughes, Cabinet-maker, was knocked down by two footpads, opposite the play-house, in Smock-alley, who robbed him of his hat, wig and money’.
