Hubbard, John (1802-1848)

Hubbard, John

Granby Yard, Grantham, Linconshire; wheelwright and chair maker (b.1802-d.1848)

Probably the son of John and Elizabeth Hubbard of Grantham (married 1792), baptised at St Wulfram’s, Grantham, February 1802. Named in the 1841 Census as a wheelwright, his burial at St Wulfram’s was recorded 6 August 1848, aged 45.

Listed in the DEFM as the maker of Windsor chairs stamped HUBBARD GRANTHAM, but Sergeant and Parker have argued (Regional Furniture (2019)) that this is a confusion with another John Hubbard, son of the chair maker Richard Hubbard of Great Gonerby.
