In 1755 Holmes employed one non-freeman for three months; in 1771, seven for twelve weeks; and in 1780, fifteen for six weeks [Guildhall Library (GL), City Licence books, vols 1, 7 and 10].

Purchased Sun Insurance policies in 1778 for £1,800, of which £800 accounted for utensils and stock; and in 1781 for £2,800, £1,500 on utensils and stock [The London Archives (TLA), Sun MS vol. 266, p. 101; vol. 294, p. 61].
